Wants and Needs

Ever since we were little, we would say things like "But I need the cowgirl Daisy with the leather saddle.  I need the deluxe version so I can have the matching glitter magic necklace."  Or you may have said "I need the Nintendo 64 with the super powerful controllers."  These are actually wants.  we however, carry this interpretation of a need into adulthood.

A need is something that is actually needed.  A home, but one within your means.  Food, but not always lobster. Clothes, but not always name brand. My wife worked with a women whom between her and her husband, neither one could figure out how to manage money.  She worked, but he did not.  He "needed" a large truck to support his style.  Granted, they were barely able to afford there small home, but he "needed" the truck to maintain his image.

If your "need" drives you into debt, then maybe you should step back an ask yourself if you actually "need" it.  Do you "need" the Lexus SUV, or would a Jeep also do the same thing.  Personally, I own a Jeep.  Do you "need" a large home with upgraded everything, or a modest home that you can work on over time?  You need to be reasonable with your wants and needs.  Only after you accept your income level and what you can afford will you be able to begin the climb out of debt.
